The Most Important Planet in Your Birth Chart

If you look at your birth chart at first glance, you'll notice that there are a lot of planets at various positions. The Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and more. Your mind is like a game of telephone and goes running, "which one is the most important? What is the initial planet to work on? This is really simple: Your chart's ruling planet, or what we term your ‘Lagna Lord,' is actually the master of the chart. Let us explain this in a simple way.

Imagine your birth chart as a company. All the signs and planets are like workers at their respective tasks. Some are working in the office, some are working from home, some are stressed, and some are happy. But there is a person who manages all the company. That person is your Ascendant lord and/or your Lagna lord. All things go through this person in your company. Same goes for your life. 

The zodiac sign that was rising on the east horizon at the time of your birth is your Lagna. For the people who were born when Aries was rising, then Mars will be their Lagna Lord. When Taurus is rising, the Lagna Lord is Venus. When Cancer is rising, Moon will be your Lagna Lord. 

Your Lagna Lord is NOT just a planet in your chart. It is the power that influences your lifestyle, appearance, thought process, and experiences. It is similar to the captain of your ship. The actual sailing is determined by the captain (Lagna Lord), and the helm is the direction (Lagna).

Knowing the location of your Lagna Lord is simple. The first thing you have to know is your birth time and birthplace. Now refer to your birth chart and locate your Ascendant or Rising Sign. For instance, if your Ascendant is in Sagittarius. If Jupiter is in your Lagna Lord, then you are fortunate because Jupiter owns Sagittarius. When you are an Ascendant of Leo, the Sun is your Lagna Lord.

Suppose both persons have Jupiter as their Lagna lord. One person has Jupiter in his 1st house in Sagittarius (his sign). This person will know that he or she is a natural leader. They will be confident, positive, and strong. Other person could have Jupiter in the 12th house in Capricorn, as it is a difficult house for Jupiter. This second person may be more introverted and unsure of the way to go or may lack self-belief.

The first, fourth, seventh, and tenth houses are the strongest houses. The influence and activity of your “Lagna Lord” becomes very strong in your life when it occupies any of these houses. The sign it's in also makes a difference. If a planet is placed in its sign or exaltation, then it is strong and good. In the ancient Indian system of Vedic astrology, the Lagna Lord holds greater significance than the Sun sign. This is because this is the base of your entire chart, your Lagna. While your Lagna Lord is the most important planet, other planets also play big roles in your chart. There are some who have a Jupiter or Mars that is very strong. A good planet is a planet that is in a strong house and is comfortable in the sign it is in.

Your Lagna Lord is similar to your boss at work. You have your best friend (maybe Mars), your accountant (or Mercury), and your partner (or Venus) as well. Each of these is a person that impacts various aspects of your life. Your boss has the final say in things, but your best friend can get you moving in the right direction in certain projects.

When a planet is located in angular houses (houses 1, 4, 7, 10), it is considered to be strong. The most powerful houses are these houses. If the planet is in his sign or exalted sign, then it is also strong. What is good is that Mars is in Aries (its own sign). Jupiter is strong in the exalted Sign of Cancer.

Don't worry if your Lagna Lord is weak or in an unfavorable position. That doesn't imply that your life will be terrible. This only means that you need to create more effort in some areas.
